Christmas in Addis (2013) Mixtape

Christmas in Addis is a mixtape created in January 2013 as a response to Sephora Woldu’s first (and failed) attempt to travel to Eritrea. A protracted visa process resulted in a trip being detoured to Ethiopia, and the name of the mixtape comes from an unfulfilled trip to Asmara that ended up being a Christmas in Addis. The back cover of the album artwork is Woldu’s actual application for an entry visa into Eritrea.

Abyssurdian Productions produced 100 copies of the mixtape and planted them in public places spanning Ethiopia, Egypt, the UK, and France. Christmas in Addis was broadcasted live during the week of Ethiopian Christmas on radio program THE LATE SHOW on AFRO FM.
